Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 9, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what Quranova ("Quranova", "we", "us") collects when you use the Quranova mobile app and website, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. Quranova is operated by 8x Social Inc. If anything here is unclear, email us at support@quranova.chat.
1. What Quranova is
Quranova is a Qur'an companion app. Its AI assistant turns your question into a numerical representation, matches it against a corpus of Qur'an translation, tafsir (scholarly commentary), well-established Sunnah and a biography of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, and answers with citations. The app also provides a Qur'an reader, a daily verse, prayer times and prayer tracking, reminders, a Qibla compass, a tasbeeh counter, a Hijri calendar and home-screen widgets. Quranova is not a scholar, does not issue religious rulings (fatwa), and its answers can be incomplete or wrong: see our Terms of Service.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Email address. You sign in with a one-time code (OTP) sent to your email, or with Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple. When you use Google or Apple, we receive the email address they release to us, and nothing else from your account there. Either way we store only your email address, to identify your account. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we receive and store only the relay address it generates.
- Your name, if you give one. Optional, and used only to greet you in the app.
- Your questions and the answers you receive. Chat questions and the generated answers are stored as your chat history so you can return to them.
- Voice recordings (Quranova Plus only). If you use voice input, the app records a short audio clip and uploads it to our server so it can be transcribed to text. We do not keep the audio after transcription; the transcript is returned to you to review and is only sent as a question if you choose to send it.
- Reports and support messages. If you report an answer, or contact support through the app or website, we receive the content of that report or message and your email.
Information we collect automatically
- Subscription and trial status. Whether you are subscribed, in a free trial, or neither, when a trial started and ends, and purchase/renewal information via our payments provider (see below). Billing itself is handled by the App Store or Google Play, including the 7-day free trial on the yearly plan: the store, not Quranova, takes the payment method that trial needs. We never receive your card details.
- How much of your question allowance you have used. A count per day for a trial or a subscription, and a running total for an account with a lifetime allowance, so the allowance can be enforced. It records that a question was asked, not what it was about.
- Your reading and prayer records. Your reading position, your reading streak, and the prayers you mark as prayed, prayed in congregation, made up or missed. These are stored against your account so they survive reinstalling the app and follow you to a new phone. A prayer log is a record you made by hand and cannot be rebuilt. Saved verses, your collections and your reminder settings are kept on the device only and never reach us.
- Product analytics. Anonymous or pseudonymous usage events (for example, that a screen was viewed or a question was asked) to understand how the app is used and improve it. With these events we record your app store country and your phone's region and language settings.
- Approximate location, for analytics. Our analytics provider, PostHog, uses the IP address your phone connects from to estimate your country, region and city. We use this only to understand where the app is used, never for advertising or to track you across other apps or websites. It is an estimate from your network, not your position: see the next section for your precise location, which is never sent to us.
- Diagnostic data. Crash reports and error logs, including technical device and app-state information, so we can find and fix bugs.
Your precise location never leaves your phone
Prayer times, prayer reminders and the Qibla compass need to know where you are. The app asks the operating system for your position and does the whole calculation on the device. Your coordinates are never sent to our servers, never stored by us, and never shared with any third party, and there is no location field on your account. Prayer reminders are likewise scheduled by your own phone, from times it worked out itself. You can refuse or withdraw the permission at any time in your device settings; those three features stop working and nothing else in the app is affected.
Distress detection stays on your device
The app detects language that may indicate distress or crisis on your device and responds locally with crisis-support resources. Messages caught by this on-device check are not sent to our servers or to any AI provider.
3. Why we use your information
- To provide the service: answer your questions and show your chat history.
- To transcribe voice input into text when you use that feature.
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To manage your free answer, any free trial and your Quranova Plus subscription.
- To keep your reading position, reading streak and prayer log in sync across your devices.
- To review reported answers and improve answer quality and safety.
- To diagnose crashes and errors, and to understand and improve how the app is used.
- To respond to your support requests.
4. Third parties who process your data
We use the service providers below to run Quranova. Each receives only what it needs for its purpose, and each processes data under its own privacy terms.
- OpenAI: receives the text of your question to create the numerical representation used to find relevant passages, and receives your voice audio to transcribe it to text. OpenAI does not use data submitted through its API to train its models.
- Anthropic: receives the text of your question, along with the relevant Qur'an and tafsir passages, to generate the answer. Anthropic does not use data submitted through its API to train its models.
- Supabase: hosts our authentication and database. Stores your email and your chat history.
- RevenueCat: manages subscriptions. Receives your subscription status and purchase receipts to determine your Quranova Plus entitlement.
- PostHog: product analytics. Receives usage events and the IP address they are sent from, which it uses to estimate an approximate location (country, region and city). PostHog data is hosted in the European Union.
- Sentry: crash and error reporting. Receives diagnostic data when the app errors. Our Sentry data is hosted in the European Union (de.sentry.io).
- Resend: delivers transactional email, including your sign-in one-time codes. Receives your email address.
- Apple and Google: if you use Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google, that provider authenticates you and releases an email address to us. They also operate the App Store and Google Play, which take any subscription payment and hold the billing record; we receive only the resulting entitlement, never your card.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
5. International data transfers
Our providers may process data in the United States, the European Union, and other countries. PostHog analytics and Sentry diagnostics are hosted in the European Union. Where data is transferred internationally, our providers rely on recognized safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
6. Data retention
- Chat history. We store your questions and answers so you can return to them. Without a subscription the app shows your most recent 30 days of history; older conversations are hidden until you subscribe, not deleted. During your trial and on Quranova Plus, your full history is available. We keep this data for as long as your account is active.
- Voice audio. Not retained after transcription.
- Reading and prayer records. Kept for as long as your account is active, and deleted with it. The prayer log holds roughly the last 400 days of marks; older days fall off automatically.
- Location. Your precise location is never collected by us, so there is nothing to retain. The approximate location estimated for analytics is kept with the analytics data below.
- Analytics and diagnostics. Retained according to our providers' standard retention periods and used in aggregate to improve the app.
7. Deleting your account
You can delete your account and its data at any time:
- From the app while signed in, deletion is immediate: your account and all of your associated data (including your chat history) are permanently removed from our database and cannot be recovered.
- From the public Delete account page, you submit your email to request deletion. We record the request and confirm by email within 30 days. For your protection, this page never reveals whether an email is associated with an account.
Some records may persist briefly in provider backups or in logs required for security and fraud-prevention, and are cleared on those providers' ordinary cycles.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise access and deletion directly through the app, or contact us at support@quranova.chat and we will respond as required by applicable law. If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
9. Children
Quranova is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use reputable providers and standard safeguards, including encryption in transit and access controls, to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use of Quranova after a change means you accept the updated policy.
